Cahuenga Pass in 1882

Shortly after purchasing their new property, Daeida had to go back east and while traveling on the train struck up a conversation with a woman who spoke at length about her country home outside of Chicago, which was called "Hollywood." Daeida liked the name so much that when she returned to California, she suggested to her husband that they name their new property Hollywood. Even after Harvey subdivided the acreage and sold it as a development, the people who built homes and business on the parcels continued to call the resulting community Hollywood.

By 1900, Hollywood had 500 full time residents. Part of the emerging town's appeal was that it was far enough away from Los Angeles to have its own identity but close enough so that traveling to downtown was just an electric trolley car ride away. Among the people who were drawn to Hollywood were Marie and Louis Drouet. As pious as she was strong-willed, Marie would become known as the founder of Blessed Sacrament Church.
