Sacrament of Baptism for an Infant Child
Welcome to the Church of the Blessed Sacrament. We are very happy that you are considering this very important step in the life of your child and family. This moment is also important for the life of our Christian community here.
Requirement for Child
Infant Baptism is celebrated for a child 6 years of age or younger.
Requirements for Parents
- At least one parent must be Catholic.
- They should be registered members of the parish.
- They should attend the initial interview for registration for baptism.
- Both parents must attend the Baptism Preparation Class.
Requirements for Godparents
- Godparents must be at least 16 years of age and willing to accept the responsibility of supporting their godchild in faith.
- At least one godparent must be Catholic and have completed Initiation (Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation).
- If married, they must be married in the Catholic Church.
- Godparents must attend the Baptism Preparation Class.
Registering for Baptism
- Parents must make an appointment with one of the priests to register for baptism.
- Registration should be done at least one month before the date you have chosen for the baptism.
Baptism Preparation Class
- The English Class is offered on the Thursday prior to the Baptism, at 6:15 p.m., in the St. Ignatius Room, in the Grammar School Building.
- If it is not possible to attend this class, parents and godparents may attend a class at another parish. However, a certificate of completion of the Baptism Preparation Class must be provided before the date of your child’s baptism.
- Please do not bring your child or your children to the class.
Dates for the Celebration of Baptism
English Baptisms are celebrated on the second Sunday of the month at 3:00 p.m.
Donation for Baptism
The suggested donation for each baptism is $40.00. Your donation should be given at the time of your child’s baptism.
