The Funeral Rites reflect the belief that the death of a Christian is the end of one’s earthly journey and the beginning of a new and eternal life with God. As such the primary focus of the liturgy is God’s goodness.We are United to His Death and Rising
The Funeral Rites are closely tied with the Rites of Baptism, when the promise of eternal life in Christ is first given. The ritual symbols of water, the paschal candle, the pall, the Word of God and the procession to the altar all recall the journey that begins for the Christian in baptism.
Catholic funerals generally have three parts:
I. The Vigil happens the night or several nights before the funeral. It is more focused on the deceased, as it involves familiar prayers and sharing of memories.
II. The Funeral Mass or Funeral Rite without Mass is a service on the day of the burial.
III. The Committal Service follows right after the Funeral Mass or Rite. It occurs at the graveside or crematorium, immediately before the body is buried or cremated. The deceased is offered the final commendation to God, looking forward to the resurrection.
Funerals at Blessed Sacrament are normally held on Saturdays at 11:30, 1:30, or 3:30. Scripture readings and liturgical music are chosen by the family with the priest’s guidance. Funeral rites without Mass may be held at the funeral home, but not Funeral Rites with Mass.
If someone you know is close to death, please contact one of the priests to conduct the Last Rites (Anointing, Confession, and Communion) and to arrange a funeral. The number is 323-462-6311. It is best to start this process as soon as you can. It ensures that adequate plans can be made for the liturgy.
When you speak with the priest, please indicate:
• Name of the deceased
• Age
• Date of death
• Funeral Home
• Contact name and telephone at funeral home
• Cemetery

Los ritos funerarios están estrechamente relacionados con los ritos del bautismo, cuando se da la promesa de la vida eterna en Cristo. Los símbolos rituales del agua, el cirio pascual, el velo, la Palabra de Dios y la procesión al altar recuerdan el viaje que comienza para el cristiano en el bautismo.
Los funerales católicos generalmente tienen tres partes:

n a cabo los sábados a las 11:30, 1:30 o 3:30. Las lecturas de las Escrituras y la música litúrgica son elegidas por la familia con la guía del sacerdote. Los ritos funerarios sin misa pueden celebrarse en la funeraria, pero no los ritos funerarios con misa.
